Vertical Step Card

Create a dimensional card with a stair step feature.

Supplies

Step-by-Step

1. Step 1

   Print the Vertical Step Card template at 100%. Trim to 5” x 6”.

   

2. Cut a piece of cardstock to 5” x 6” and sandwich it with the card layout on top. Place both pieces on a foam pad.

   

3. Step 2

   Using a straight pin, pierce at each intersection. Make sure you pierce through both layers. Repeat on all 4 horizontal lines.

   

4. You will have 4 pin holes on each line.

   

5. Step 3

   Place the cardstock onto a score board. Using a scoring tool or stylus score from the top to the first pin hole.

   

6. Score from the top to the 3rd pin hole. Notice you have skipped the 2nd pin hole.

   

7. Step 4

   Drop down to the row of pin holes, and starting with the 2nd hole, score to the pin hole immediately below.

   

8. Continue scoring as shown. Each new row begins one pin hole to the right. Once you are done scoring you will see the beginnings of your 5 steps!

   

9. Step 5

   Place a pencil mark (for reference only) on the first and fourth pin hole for each line.

   

10. Using a craft knife, ruler and cutting mat, cut from pencil mark to pencil mark as shown.

    

11. Step 6

    Create a mountain fold on all the left score lines and a valley fold on all the right score lines.

    

12. Using a bone folder create sharp creases, and make sure the card opens and closes smoothly.

    

13. Step 7

    The card base is ready to embellish. In the sample, panels were cut for the fronts of the steps. All strips are 3/4" high. The first one is 3/4" long, then 1-1/4", 1-3/4", 2-1/4", and 2-3/4".

    

14. Step 8

    Complete the project. The finished card folds flat to 4" x 5" and will fit in a standard A2 envelope.
